Makiage-shibori T-shirt Course
Participation fee : 5,500yen |
Recommended age : Elementary school students or older |
Time required : Approx. 90 minutes |
Material used : 100% cotton |
Using the traditional makiage-shibori technique, patterns are created by tying areas of cloth (a t-shirt) with string and then dyeing the cloth while applying pressure so that the dye does not permeate into the areas where pressure was applied. The cloth is dyed a single color. After the cloth is drawn together in folds of the same width or folded into bellows, it is tied with string and dyed. This technique is comparatively simple for even beginners to do. Because the appearance of the white (undyed) areas differs depending on how the folds are aligned and the string tied, choosing which areas of cloth to dye provides an opportunity to show off your skill. Select a t-shirt from five unisex sizes (XS, S, M, L, or XL) and a color from 20 rich hues. Create your very own original tie-dyed t-shirt!

VOICES
I found the placement of the boards a bit difficult, but the slipping also added character, and I am satisfied with the result. I was able to make my very own unique t-shirt.
A.K. (F), Itajime-shibori T-shirt Course
I was astonished that this method of tying the cloth with string produces these kinds of patterns. Whenever I see clothing with a tie-dye pattern on a TV program or in a movie in the future, I’m sure I will wonder to myself, “How was that tied?”
K. F. (F), Makiage-shibori T-shirt Course
The instructor was very attentive and detailed in their teaching, so the tie-dying experience was much easier than I had expected.
K. H. (M), Makiage-shibori T-shirt Course
The way the dye smudges was unexpected, but I also enjoyed the randomness.
